In the last few years, there has been a great deal of ferment in studies of race and sexuality and in thinking about the intersections amongst race, politics, and multiple sexual identifications. In the wake of black feminism, non-western womanism, and discourses of queerness, we find ourselves facing as many new forms of domination and discrimination as there are new sexual identities and possible social positions. In keeping with its long-standing commitment to black feminism, gender politics, and liberation, The Black Scholar is aggressively seeking scholarly and literary essays, articles, interviews and reviews engaging this rapidly changing world of black sexuality studies. Topics of particular interest include: blackness and desire, popular culture and sexual politics, Africa and LGBT crisis, queerness and the literatures of black Diaspora, black feminism and queer theory, pornography and race, sexual subcultures, performance and performativity, and the complex deployments of power and desire at work in Kink, Fetish, and BDSM theory. We also welcome jointly authored work, manifestos, and testimonials, and are open to suggestions about possible collaborations.
