Watch ‘Record/Play’ Now
– Time-Bending Contender
For Best Live-Action Short Film Oscar
A short film that’s been short-listed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to advance in the Oscarrace, in the Best Live-Action Short Film category, as announced on this blog this morning, here’s your chance to finally see Jesse Atlas’ 11-minute short film, Record/Play, which, after gaining notoriety on the film festival circuit (its USA premiere was at the 2012 Urbanworld Film Festival), got Hollywood’s attention, and is on its way to a feature-length film adaptation.
A month ago, Universal Pictures inked a deal to adapt Record/Play, with Aaron Wolfe, who wrote the screenplay for the short film, attached to direct, and Chuck Roven (Man of Steel) producing.
Mustafa Shakir and Deepti Gupta star in the drama/sci-fi/thriller, in which a malfunctioning cassette tape captures more than just audio. The film explores an intriguing idea that you probably won’t immediately, completely grasp in the teaser below, if you haven’t seen the full film.
But I won’t spoil it for you! Just watch it for yourself below, as the filmmaker has made it available online for public consumption.
