The POP Montreal International Music Festival and Matrix Magazine have teamed up for the tenth consecutive year to bring you the most innovative and exciting literary competition on Earth. We are celebrating our tenth anniversary by opening up submissions to Europe and featuring one of fiction’s rising stars and an iconic poetry legend as our judges. We are looking for your best stories and poems. Winners will have their work published in Matrix, and receive free travel to POP Montreal for a night in their honour.
Our 2017 judges are Saleema Nawaz(Fiction) and Eileen Myles (Poetry).
The winners, one from each category, will receive:
1. A round-trip ticket to Montreal from September 13 – September 17, 2017
2. A VIP pass to POP Montreal
3. Free accommodation at a hotel
4. Publication in Matrix Magazine with full honorarium
5. A starring role in a presentation at a special Matrix Lit POP event during the festival
This contest is open to residents of Canada, the United States, and Europe. The final deadline for all submissions is July 31st, 2017. Winners will be notified in August. Poets are asked to send no more than 5 poems; fiction writers should send stories of no more than 4000 words. Each entry is 25$.

OUR JUDGES:
Saleema Nawaz is the author of Mother Superior and Bone and Bread, which won the 2013 Quebec Writers’ Federation Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and was selected for Canada Reads 2016. Her fiction has appeared in many Canadian literary journals and her short story “My Three Girls,” won the 2008 Writers’ Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize. Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, she currently lives and writes in Montreal, Quebec.
Eileen Myles is the author of nineteen books including I Must Be Living Twice: New & Selected Poems, and a 2015 reissue of Chelsea Girls. Eileen is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in non-fiction, an Andy Warhol/Creative Capital Arts Writers grant, four Lambda Book Awards, and the Shelley Prize from the PSA. In 2016 Myles received a Creative Capital grant and the Clark Prize for excellence in art writing. Currently they teach at NYU and Naropa University and live in Marfa TX and New York.
