Baz Luhrmann’s first TV show hits Netflix later this year, and now it has a very funkified first trailer to get you excited. The Get Down follows a group of New York City youngsters — including Jaden Smith and Dope‘s Shameik Moore —  in the 1970s on the cusp of discovering hip-hop through the guidance of Grandmaster Flash. It’s practically the antithesis of Scorsese’s upcoming Vinyl in that it stars tons of gorgeous Afros, beautiful musical performances (Herizen Guardiola, you better sang!), and a sobering depiction of inner-city life in the Bronx in the ’70s that’ll leave you in tears by the trailer’s end. Jimmy Smits, Giancarlo Esposito, and Justice Smith also star in what looks to be one of the year’s best new shows.
