Certainly no stranger to music, Idris Elba has released a full-length album inspired by his popular TV character, DCI John Luther.

Released on Tuesday, just before the USA premiere of what is expected to be the final TV installment of “Luther,” the compilation album is titled “Murdah Loves John (The John Luther Character Album),” and it’s available on iTunes.

“’Murdah Loves John’ is an extension of my massive fantasy to be a musician,” Elba said during a press screening of “Luther” in New York City. “When I did ‘Mandela,’ I made an album called ‘Me Mandela,’ and ‘Murdah Loves John’ is the second sort of installation of my music. I’m trying to give my fans and people that love film and music a very interesting perspective into both worlds. ‘Murdah Loves John’ is eight tracks that really sort of explore being a murder detective and someone that is a murderer that is in love with a detective. That’s what the album is about.”

Elba has been teasing tracks from the album for about a month, most recently, releasing the video for the title track featuring Wretch 32 and Shakka (watch it below). On the album, you’ll also find the rock-inspired “Sinner Man” featuring Tom Meighan of Kasabian, as well as appearances by Fabienne and Greighwolfe, and more.

Check it out in full on iTunes.
