Reporting Initiative Fellowship
– Rwanda/DRC Cross-Border

ten women journalists will report on conservation and
sustainable agriculture in Rwanda and the Democratic
Republic of the Congo (DRC) from January 26 –
February 12, 2016. Reporting fellows will begin their trip
in Nairobi, Kenya, where they will complete comprehensive
security training and an orientation about the Initiative
with briefings from regional experts. Fellows will then
depart first to Rwanda and then to the DRC for two weeks
of in-country reporting, during which time they will have
the opportunity to network with other journalists, report
independently and collaboratively with their peers, and
gain access to a variety of sources and sites related to the
trip theme.
The IWMF arranges travel and in-country logistics for all Fellows. The IWMF also covers fellowship-related costs within the framework of the reporting trip including travel, lodging, meals and fixers/interpreters, unless a selected journalist’s news organization wishes to assume these costs. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be a woman journalist with at least three years of professional experience working in news media. Reporters working in print, broadcast, or digital media, including freelancers, are eligible.
- Non-native English speaking applicants must have excellent written and verbal English skills in order to fully participate in and benefit from the program.
- Must be able to demonstrate support from an editor or have a proven track record of publication in prominent media outlets.
