ICI Biennial Symposium

on the African Diaspora

“The African Diaspora

in the World”

Issues in Critical Investigation (ICI) invites you to participate in a symposium dedicated to the exploration of the African Diaspora as a social, historical, political, and discursive problematic. ICI 2 will take place at Vanderbilt University, home to “Music City” and the state capital, and will examine a range of issues under the general theme “The African Diaspora in the World.”

The committee welcomes papers on any topic relating to the African Diaspora. Suggested topics may include:

• the impact of cultural productions in African Diasporic communities on various artistic practices around the world
• the foreign and domestic policies of G-8/BRIC nation-states regarding their African-related internal populations
• the blurred boundaries between civilian populations and the obscure military combatant, the new citizenship and the security state
• Ecocriticism and the African diaspora

Authors of accepted papers may be invited to present their work at the Bishop Joseph Johnson Center for Black Cultural Studies at Vanderbilt University on September 25-26, 2015. Both ICI members and non-members are invited to submit proposals for papers.

Deadline for Proposals
Please send a title and abstract by 15 May 2015 to Hortense Spillers, Director, Issues in Critical Investigation, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, 37235-1654 at ici@vanderbilt.edu

ICI looks forward to receiving proposals in response to the call, and is happy to respond to inquiries from interested parties.
