STUDIO CENTER FELLOWSHIPS

OPEN TO ALL:

25 VERMONT STUDIO CENTER FELLOWSHIPS OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS AND WRITERS, BASED ENTIRELY ON MERIT, FOR RESIDENCIES SCHEDULED JULY 2015 – APRIL 2016.

All artists and writers who apply at our February 15th, 2015 deadline are automatically considered for one of 25 awards.

FELLOWSHIPS FOR WRITERS

James Merrill Poetry Fellowships

Three fellowships for outstanding American poets with demonstrable financial need. These fellowships, given in honor of the literary and philanthropic legacy of the poet James Merrill and supported by the Hellen Plummer Charitable Foundation, each include a $500 stipend.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered, be sure to include financial documentation (a copy of the first page of your most recent income tax return, a recent W-2, a statement of need, etc.).

Zoland Poetry Fellowships

Two awards open to writers, based entirely on merit:

  • One fellowship open to all poets
  • One fellowship open to all fiction writers
#Giving Tuesday VSC Alumni Fellowship

A new offering for any artist or writer who has previously attended a VSC residency, made possible by generous support from our alumni and friends.

Voices Rising Fellowship

This fellowship is for an African American woman fiction writer with demonstrable financial need. Given in honor of women writers of color such as Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, and Zora Neale Hurston, whose voices have inspired so many, this award also comes with a $2,000 stipend to help offset costs associated with the residency, such as travel, childcare, lost wages, rent, etc.

ELIGIBILITY: To be considered, be sure to complete the cultural background portion of VSC’s application and include financial documentation (a copy of the first page of your most recent income tax return, a recent W-2, a statement of need, etc.).

The Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers (ALSCW) Fellowship

One fellowship for a writer who is a current member of ALSCW.

Helen Zell Residency Fellowships 

Two fellowships for Helen Zell Writers’ Program candidates in poetry between their first and second year in the MFA program at the University of Michigan.

The Swan Fellowship

One fellowship for an interdisciplinary artist who paints and writes.

ELIGIBILITY: This fellowship is open to interdisciplinary artists with proficiency in both painting and creative writing. To be considered for this award, please attach EITHER a set of slides/images and a CV that demonstrates creative writing publications OR a creative writing work sample and a CV that reflects a history of painting exhibitions.

UMass Amherst Alumni Fellowship in Poetry

A two-week residency fellowship for alumni of the University of Massachusetts Amherst MFA for Poets and Writers.

ELIGIBILITY: This award is for poets who are graduates of the MFA for Poets and Writers, so please indicate that you are an alum of the UMass Amherst program via the Education and CV portions of the application.

Hemera Foundation Tending Space Fellowships

10 fellowships open to all active visual and performing artists and writers with a demonstrable commitment to contemplative practice. Tending Space fellowships offer artists the time and space to explore the intersection of arts practice and contemplative practice. Fellows receive support for up to a month of residential meditation retreat, an arts program, two weeks of dedicated studio time at the Vermont Studio Center (or another setting, for performing artists), and a stipend for expenses. During the six-month fellowship period, fellows will work with two mentors, a professional artist in their field, and a meditation teacher. Please visit hemerafoundation.org for more information.
