Blue Lobster Book Co. is now accepting submissions for three new anthologies planned for release in early 2015. They are:

PROJECT #1: The Children in Iraq Weep for Us (humor)

Do you catch yourself complaining about first-world problems? Is your day ruined if your gel nails chip after only one week?  WTF? They’re supposed to last at least two weeks!  Have you ever cursed at your Internet service provider because your Wi-Fi was too slow?  Time Warner is the devil; amiright?  Do you have to hold back from screaming at your child when he or she throws a tantrum because you bought the wrong cereal?  Have you ever said, “There are hungry kids in the Middle East who would love to eat Walmart brand Fruit Loops!” If so, we want to hear from you. Blue Lobster Book Co. is currently accepting submissions for a book of first world problems. Write about the time you had a meltdown over running out of propane in the middle of a cook out. Tell us about what an inconvenience it is to not have a Fast Pass for every ride at Disney. Cry to us about how you hate your gym because they don’t have afternoon yoga classes. Let us have you at your worst.

Proudly teaming up with humor blogger Lisa R. Petty for this production!

Please send your submissions to mommifried@gmail.com. Use the headline Submission: The Children of Iraq Weep for Us

Deadline for submissions: January 15, 2015 (SEE BELOW FOR GUIDELINES & COMPENSATION)

PROJECT #2: What I Learned From My Mother (title WILL change)

Just in time for Mother’s Day, it’s a compilation of stories about what we’ve learned from our mothers. The pieces should be infused with conversation to bring the stories to life. Heartfelt and sentimental or laugh-out-loud funny, anything goes with this collection! Always wear clean underwear. Clean under your fingernails. What did your mother teach you that has stuck with you to this day?

Please send your submissions to mommifried@gmail.com. Use the headline Submission: What I Learned From My Mother

Deadline for submissions: January 30, 2015 (SEE BELOW FOR GUIDELINES & COMPENSATION)

Contributor Guidelines for The Children in Iraq Weep for Us and What I Learned From My Mother:

  1. Each submission should be between 1,000 and 2,500 words, embedded into the body of your email.
  2. Submissions should contain original content, not previously published. Please do not republish elsewhere. If accepted for inclusion into the book, submissions should not be used in their entirety as blog posts, articles, etc. for the period of time specified in contract. Duplicate content is penalized by major search engines and frowned upon by major publishers.
  3. Submissions are subject to copyediting; however, every effort will be made not to change the tone of the content.
  4. The submission should directly relate to a personal story or event, limiting the use of third-party names, where possible.
  5. Please avoid the use of quotes, poetry, and song lyrics, where possible, as they present copyright issues.
  6. Please include a bio, headshot, and URLs to blog, social media profiles, etc. (can send at a later date) for promotional purposes.

Compensation for The Children in Iraq Weep for Us and What I Learned From My Mother:

All contributors will be paid $100 for their submissions after publishing expenses are recouped (we recovered costs in less than sixty days with The Mother of All Meltdowns) and after the book reaches the required sales to reimburse across the board (i.e. 30 contributors = $3,000 in sales after expenses are recouped). More details will be provided if accepted. A bonus program will be available to those who actively and aggressively market the book on an ongoing basis.

PROJECT #3: Recipes with a Story (title subject to change)

Does your family’s favorite meal come attached with a fun or sentimental story? Did your grandmother pass down a cherished recipe that stems from generations of hardcore bakers? Have you tweaked a recipe so much that it no longer resembles the original yet tastes a hundred times better? We want to hear from you! Please submit a 500 to 800 word story along with the full recipe and one high resolution image of the final dish. Please do not add any titles or copyrights to the images. These will be added later (your blog URL). Please also include a bio, headshot, and URLs to blog, social media profiles, etc. (can send at a later date) for promotional purposes.

Compensation: All contributors will be paid $50 for their submissions after publishing expenses are recouped and after the book reaches the required sales to reimburse across the board (i.e. 30 contributors = $1,500 in sales after expenses are recouped). More details will be provided if accepted. A bonus program will be available to those who actively and aggressively market the book on an ongoing basis.
