Broken Pencil Accepting Fiction and Nonfiction Submissions – Pays up to $300 Broken Pencil, a quarterly print magazine dedicated solely to alternative arts and indie culture, is currently open to new article pitches from freelance writers. Editor Lindsay Gibb has three categories currently open for fiction and nonfiction articles: 1. Short articles on liberal arts, special events, artists, zine meet-ups, etc. Word length: under 400 words. 2. Feature articles, profiles, interviews, commentary, or event pieces. Articles must be in-depth, thoroughly-researched, and focus on the indie culture and underground arts movement. Word length is 1K to 3K words. 3. Fiction stories, original and unpublished, up to 3K words. (Fiction submissions close September 15th.)
