Neffy Okonkwo isn’t living the dream. Being a Nigerian immigrant living in the illusive city of Nottingham has lost its charm; aspirations of creating a better life for her are bittersweet, instead she begrudgingly caters to the drunk and disorderly as a washroom attendant at the local nightclub. After a particularly dismal shift, her path crosses with the pragmatic Allie Pearson (17) the daughter of her irritable neighbour, after a couple of encounters; they chip away their social dispositions and expose their crippling secrets.

Creative producer, Melissa Blake is currently in the midst of an MArt Film and Media Production degree at Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield, United Kingdom.

 

Having always had a fascination with the arts, she decided to turn her hand to filmmaking to gain skills and insight into the intricate world of entertainment.

 

Dissatisfied by the lack of exploration of multicultural backgrounds in British television drama, she decided to write ‘Neffy’ as an attempt to learn about Nigerian culture, and discover the complexities of writing the behaviours of a non-national character.

 

Inspired by the thriving social media movement, she considered the idea of making pure online content as a necessary approach to reach a wider audience, and to gain an honest reception of the work she creates.

 

Episode 1, 2 and 3 are now out and we can all be excited to see how far this story goes!
