We had great fun at Story Friday last Friday, with fab stories from Elaine Miles, Mark Rutterford, Catherine Strong, A.R. Paul, Stephanie Weston and me, Clare Reddaway, with a little piece of flash fiction in the programme by Kay Hinde. Thank you to everyone who performed and everyone who submitted and everyone who came along to cheer! It was a great Independence Day. So – stories for next time please!
Story Fridays: Clean Slate
Story Fridays in September will be held on Friday 19th September. September always makes us think of a new term – brand new school shoes and a pencil case full of freshly sharpened pencils. So in keeping with the month, we’ve gone for the theme ‘Clean Slate’. We are looking for short stories or monologues, fact or fiction (but mainly fiction) that would be under 15 minutes when read, and which are on the theme of Clean Slate. That’s a maximum of 2,100 words. More than that and we find the audience starts to flag. Can’t have that! 2,100 is a maximum though – we’ve had some lovely flash fiction in the past. No poetry please. The event will be held on Friday 19th September at Burdall’s Yard in Bath. Deadline for submissions is Monday 8th September. You’ve got the summer hols to come up with the perfect story! PLEASE check that you are available to come along on the 19th September before you submit. We like the writers to be in the audience for these events. If you can’t make it to Clean Slate, you might be interested to know that our event on 7th November has the theme NOIR – we’ll be looking for suspense and thrillers for that one. The stories will be followed by the screening of a classic Film Noir – this was really popular when we ran our Brief Encounter evening last year. Two wonderful professional actors, Olly Langdon and Caroline Garland of Kilter Theatre, are very happy to read your story if performance gives you the jitters. Let me know in your email when you submit if you’d like someone else to read your piece.
At the moment, this is an unpaid opportunity.
Do email me at clare.reddaway@btinternet.com, give me a ring on 01225 428 469 or go to the website www.awordinyourear.org.uk if you’d like more information. If you want to know what kind of stories we enjoy, have a listen to some of the readings at previous Story Fridays which are available on the website.
Story Fridays are run by Clare Reddaway of A Word In Your Ear and Olly Langdon and Caroline Garland of Kilter Theatre.
Please forward this email on to any writers who you think might be interested.
With best wishes
