Tiferet Contest

  

We are accepting submissions for the 2014 TIFERET Writing Contest from January 1, 2014 – June 1, 2014. You can submit your entries here

 

$1,200 will be awarded in prizes

  • $400 for the best poetry submission
  • $400 for the best short story (fiction)
  • $400 for the best essay or interview (non-fiction)

One prize winner and two honorable mentions will be awarded in each category.

Please read our normal submission guidelines for help in determining what kind of writing we seek.

 

A $15 fee is required for each entry. Entries are defined as follows:

  • Poetry: You may submit up to six poems. (Poems should be submitted in one document with each poem on a separate page and each page/poem titled.)
  • Fiction: You may submit a story up to 20 pages.
  • Essay/Interview: You may submit an essay or an interview up to 20 pages.

All submissions must be made electronically.

Non-Fiction

Charles Euchner is a case writer at Yale School of Management and author of books on civil rights (Nobody Turn Me Around), public policy (Playing the Field and Urban Policy Reconsidered), and a series of books on writing (including The Big Book of Writing). He offers seminars on storytelling and writing across the U.S. Euchner was the founding executive director of the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston at Harvard University and associate director of the Center for Urban and Regional Policy at Northeastern University. He was the coordinator of the City of Boston’s longterm planning process. He was also staff writer for Education Week. Poetry

Alfred Corn’s tenth book of poems, titled Tables, appeared last year with Press53. He has also published a novel, titled Part of His Story; two collections of essays; and The Poem’s Heartbeat, a study of prosody. His work as a poet brought him the Guggenheim fellowship, an Award in Literature from the Academy of Arts and Letters, and one from the Academy of American Poets. Fiction

Jacqueline Sheehan, Ph.D., is a New York Times Bestselling author. She is also a psychologist. Her novels include, The Comet’s Tale a novel about Sojourner Truth, Lost & Found, Now & Then, and Picture This. She has published travel articles, short stories, essays and radio pieces. Most recently, she published an essay in the New York Times column, Modern Love. In 2005, she edited the anthology, Women Writing in Prison. She is currently working on her fifth novel. Jacqueline has been awarded residencies at Hawthornden Castle in Scotland and Jentel Arts Colony in Wyoming. She teaches workshops at Grub Street in Boston and Writers in Progress in Florence, Massachusetts. She has taught writing workshops in Jamaica, Guatemala, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland and will once again offer a writing retreat in Guatemala in February 2014.
