Gulf Coast is now accepting entries for the 2014 Gulf Coast Prizes in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry. The contest awards $1,500 and publication in Gulf Coast to the winner in each genre. Two honorable mentions in each genre will be awarded $250. All entries will be considered for publication and the entry fee includes a one-year subscription to Gulf Coast.
The 2014 Gulf Coast Prize in Fiction will be judged by Andrea Barrett
Andrea Barrett teaches writing at Williams College and lives in North Adams, Massachusetts, with her husband, photographer Barry Goldstein. She’s the author of six novels, most recently The Air We Breathe, and three collections of stories: Ship Fever, which received the 1996 National Book Award, Servants of the Map, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and, most recently, Archangel.
The 2014 Gulf Coast Prize in Nonfiction will be judged by John D’Agata
John D’Agata is the author of a few books of nonfiction, including About a Mountainand Halls of Fame, and the editor of The Lost Origins of the Essay and The Next American Essay. He teaches creative writing at the University of Iowa, where he is the director of the Nonfiction Writing Program.
The 2014 Gulf Coast Prize in Poetry will be judged by Rachel Zucker
Rachel Zucker is the author of eight books, including MOTHERs (a memoir) and The Pedestrians (a double collection of poems and prose). She lives in New York and teaches at New York University.
Entries for the Gulf Coast Prizes in Fiction and Nonfiction should be a single prose work not exceeding 7,000 words. Entrants for the Gulf Coast Prize in Poetry may submit up to five poems not exceeding 10 total pages in length. We will accept submissions both via our online submissions manager and via postal mail. Entrants may submit more than once or in more than one genre, but each new entry must be accompanied by a separate $23 entry fee.
Contest Guidelines for Online Submissions
– Submissions accepted via Gulf Coast’s online submissions manager.
– Submit your work as a single .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .pdf file.
– Only previously unpublished work will be considered.
– The contest will be judged blindly, so please do not include your cover letter, your name, or any contact information in the uploaded document. This information should only be pasted in the “Comments” field.
– The submissions manager accepts all major credit cards for the $23 entry fee, which includes a one-year subscription to Gulf Coast.
