A residency programme has been established at St. George’s University in Grenada and will come on stream in Spring 2014. The writer-in-residence will receive room and board at The University Club. Airfare to Grenada is not included.The writer-in-residence will give six weeks of service to the SGU and wider Grenadian community, including: 

• Give two readings at SGU, local schools, libraries, writers’ organizations, and other institutions. They may read from their work in progress, and field questions on the writing process, inspiration

behind the work, etc. These readings will be recorded for the SGU radio station and for the Grenadian Information Service 

• Lead two workshops in creative writing at SGU, secondary schools and TAMCC.
• Keep office hours two half-days a week for consultation with members of the SGU and Grenadian community on the craft of writing and opportunities for getting published.  

Selection Criteria
To qualify for the writer-in-residence program, a candidate must have already embarked on a writing project and must have underway a manuscript which he or she needs time, and freedom from material considerations, to complete. The candidate may or may not have encouragement from a publisher, in the form of a cash advance or otherwise. There are no specific requirements as to sex, age or marital status. 

The writer-in-residence shall be chosen on the bases of (1) the manuscript, with its evidence of literary skill and originality; (2) personal qualities – devotion to the writer’s craft, industry, and integrity; adaptability to the small town environment in a small Caribbean island; and ability to mentor potential writers.

Preference shall be given to a writer of fiction, poetry or drama. A writer of non-fiction will be considered only if his/her work is intended for a general audience and carried out in expectation of a career as a professional writer.
