A film about a young girl on the verge of getting married who has to undergo genital cutting. not wanting to go through with it, she runs away during the ceremony. one of Leila Djansi’s first films, one can see the progression of her work. also an interesting fact – although the film is supposed to be set in rural Ghana, it was actually filmed in the Oyotunji African Villageof Sheldon, South Carolina.
What a brilliant and powerful short film that deals with a layer of interlinked issues ranging from forced marriage to women’s education and literacy. A really wonderfully told story.
