First, second, and third prizes are chosen from these poems. The remaining\u00a0fifteen poems are\u00a0published\u00a0and\u00a0highlighted as honorable mentions.\u00a0We make every\u00a0effort to notify\u00a0poets as\u00a0to the\u00a0status of their work\u00a0within\u00a03 months of our receiving their submissions.\u00a0Winning poets and honorable mentions will be notified no later than March 1st following the annual December 31st deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Awards:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Winners will receive their awards from Crosswinds in the form of a check\u00a0sent to their postal mailing address no later than March 10th of each year following the contest deadline.\u00a0Contest winners agree to allow Crosswinds to publish their names and state of residence on this website, in other forms of advertising,\u00a0and in Poets and Writer\u2019s Magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Guidelines:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Please submit poems as word documents. <strong>NO PDF files.<\/strong> Thank you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Any identifying information on the poem itself will disqualify the poem from consideration. We prefer poems of under 50 lines.\u00a0 Please include a\u00a0brief bio of\u00a0ten lines or less\u00a0with your poem submissions, including your postal mailing address.\u00a0All entries are considered for publication.\u00a0Previously published works and works forthcoming elsewhere cannot be considered. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but the entry fee is non-refundable if the submitted work is accepted elsewhere. Should poets wish to withdraw their poems after acceptance, they must do so\u00a0prior to the stated contest deadline.\u00a0Multiple entries are\u00a0acceptable as long as separate reading fees\u00a0are included with each entry (see below). Crosswinds Poetry Journal cannot consider contest submissions from anyone currently or recently affiliated with Crosswinds or the current judge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The entry fee for contest poems is $20 for each group of three (3) poems submitted, with a maximum\u00a0of six (6) poems allowed per poet (requires two separate $20\u00a0reading fees and submissions). All submissions are considered for publication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Poetry contest entries are read from\u00a0July 1<sup>st<\/sup> to the deadline date of December 31<sup>st<\/sup> of each year. Poems received outside this period will not be considered, and\u00a0no manuscripts will be returned. All rights revert to the author upon publication.\u00a0No postal submissions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>About Mr. Lloyd Schwartz,\u00a0our 2018 Judge: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Lloyd Schwartz\u2019s poems, articles, and reviews have appeared in <em>The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, The New Republic, The Paris Review, The Best American Poetry, and The Best of the Best American Poetry.<\/em> His latest collection of poems is Little Kisses (U of Chicago Press). In 1994, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A noted Elizabeth Bishop scholar, Mr. Schwartz is currently Frederick S. Troy Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
