\nFlash \/ Short Fiction<\/strong> must comprise a complete story within the word limit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Creative Non-Fiction<\/strong> must be a true story and may include personal stories, memoir or personal essays.\u00a0 Stories selected as finalists may undergo a fact-checking process; documentation of sources is not required with submission, but may be requested.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hyphenated words count as two words.<\/span><\/p>\n

Contestant Eligibility:<\/strong>\u00a0All writers from any locale are welcome to submit entries.\u00a0\u00a0 Contest Advisory Committee and SLO Nightwriters Board members are not eligible.\u00a0 Contest Judges and Sponsor members are not eligible.\u00a0 Contestants may not win for the same story in more than one category.\u00a0 Entrants must be 18 years of age or older.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entry Eligibility:<\/strong>\u00a0 Entries must be the original unpublished works of the authors and not previously accepted for publication.\u00a0 Entries that have previously won a contest prize are not eligible.\u00a0 Non-published pieces written on-line that are not for sale, e.g. a blog site, are eligible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Submission, Fees and Payments:<\/strong> \u00a0<\/b>Entries are only accepted via Submittable<\/i>, a secure online submissions management tool.\u00a0 Applicants may enter more than one category, and submit more than one entry in any category.\u00a0 An entry fee must be paid for each entry.\u00a0 Please note once an entry has been submitted we are unable to accept revisions to that piece or issue refunds<\/i>.<\/strong>\u00a0 If you want to revise your submission you may do so as a separate entry with payment of the new entry fee.\u00a0 Please rename the resubmission.\u00a0 Entries will not be returned.\u00a0 Payment of contest entry fees confirms you have read, understand and agree to the terms of all contest rules.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Flash\/Short Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction must be double-spaced with a minimum of 1\u201d margins all around, and include page numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Poems may be creatively spaced and formatted; include page numbers if needed<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The header of each page must include the title, entry category and word\/line count only.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No identifying information is to be placed on the entry itself<\/i>.<\/strong>\u00a0 Do NOT<\/strong> upload a cover sheet with the entry<\/span><\/p>\n

Notification:<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/b>The top ten finalists and winning entrants will be notified via the email address provided.\u00a0 Other entrants will not be notified.<\/span><\/p>\n

Announcements:<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/b>Winners will be announced at the SLO Nightwriters meeting and Awards Ceremony November 14, 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

Publication:<\/strong>\u00a0All rights belong to the authors.\u00a0 Winning contestants will be announced on the SLO Nightwriters Golden Quill Writers Contest and SLO Nightwriters websites.\u00a0 Contestants may have the opportunity to have their winning entry posted on line as well.<\/span><\/p>\n
