In this second installment, she focuses on Soshanguve\u2019s highly-buzzing\u00a0duo\u00a0<strong>Black Motion<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Arguably the hottest act in South Africa right now\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Black-Motion\/161467293908113\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Black Motion<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0have, in three short years, gone from bedroom producers hustling independently to headlining festivals and events all over Africa and Europe. Their fresh take on drum-driven house music is a collision of timeless, hypnotic rhythms and the dynamism and electricity of South Africa\u2019s burgeoning house movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u201cWe aren\u2019t doing this for fashion and we aren\u2019t doing this for money,\u201d says group percussionist\u00a0<strong>Thabo \u201cSmol\u201d Mabogwane<\/strong>,\u00a0\u201cWe drum to communicate with our ancestors and we have been doing it since we were small children. We live this.\u201d He and\u00a0<strong>Robert \u2018DJ Murdah\u2019 Mahosana<\/strong>\u00a0grew up in Shoshanguve, a township about 20 kilometres north of South Africa\u2019s capital city \u2014 and so-called capital city of house music \u2014 Pretoria. I ask about their musical backgrounds and Thabo answers \u201cWe had no choice but to be self-taught.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"fitvid145734\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9qyZgMSF8sA\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Although they\u2019d both been active in the music industry for a few years neither were seeing the fruits of their labours. \u201cPeople were taking their music \u2013 and they weren\u2019t being rewarded for it\u201d says their manager and partner,\u00a0<strong>Moses Mokgoko<\/strong>. Sensing talent he bought studio equipment: a crucial investment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Black Motion\u2019s big break came when Mokgoko approached influential youth station<strong>YFM<\/strong>\u00a0with their single, \u2018Banene Mavoko\u2019 (\u2018Clap Your Hands\u2019) [above]. The track immediately soared up the charts catching the attention of industry icon\u00a0<strong>Oscar \u201cOskido\u201d Mdlongwa<\/strong>, who licensed the track for his\u00a0<em>10th Commandant<\/em>\u00a0compilation. Later,\u00a0<strong>Tribe Records UK<\/strong>\u00a0signed the track for international digital release. A string of strong releases followed and, quicker than a kick-and-snare, Black Motion were heralded as \u2018the next big thing.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"fitvid467903\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5Wtr-vRMUzk\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">The group released a collaboration with\u00a0<strong>UPZ<\/strong>\u00a0(Avi Elman) in September \u201912 titled \u201cAfrika Wo-Man\u201d [above] \u2014 \u00a0where the word \u2018Wo-man\u2019 means \u2018Nation\u2019 in Ga, one of many Ghanaian dialects. Recorded partly in Israel and in South Africa, the song brought together\u00a0<strong>Theo Lawson<\/strong>\u00a0(lead vocals) from Ghana and Nigerian singer\u00a0<strong>Delight<\/strong>\u00a0(backing vocals) \u2014 both of whom emigrated to Israel from their respective countries several years back. Black Motion\u2019s\u00a0followed with their debut\u00a0<em>Talking To The Drums<\/em>with\u00a0<em>Aquarian Drum<\/em>s in December \u201912, which includes their current single \u201cThat Lazy Song\u201d featuring\u00a0<strong>Nape\u00a0<\/strong>. Both Robert and Thabo used to take part in local dance competitions ,which accounts for their infectious &amp; frenetic on-stage antics. \u201cWe understand both sides of the stage\u2026 our priority is to make the whole audience feel what we feel.\u201d says Robert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Recently the pair made their second trip to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wintermusicconference.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Winter Music Conference<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/a>as part of the South African Invasion. \u201cWe love going to Miami,\u201d says Thabo \u201cwe had a great response to our new tracks.\u201d Their music has taken them all over the globe \u2013 highlights being<em>Spring Explosion<\/em>\u00a0in Botswana, multiple trips to Angola, Portugal, London, Manchester, Lesotho, Canada and supporting\u00a0<strong>Black Coffee<\/strong>\u2019s game-changing\u00a0<em>Africa Rising<\/em>\u00a0concert. For now their focus is on crafting material for their third album and on their record label\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spiritmotion.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Spiritmotion<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a platform from which they hope to \u201cpay it forward\u201d by empowering young artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Black Motion in three words?
