Enter the 2013 Engine Books Novel Prize! Winners will receive a $1,000 advance and publication by Engine Books in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2013 Novel Prize will be judged by Robin Black, whose story collection\u00a0If I loved you, I would tell you this<\/em>\u00a0was a big hit from Random House in 2010 and was a finalist for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Prize. Her stories present the whole world compacted into the space of a (long) story, novels in slightly smaller packages. She’s been a friend to and supporter of EngineBooks before the press officially existed, and we’re so grateful she’s agreed to judge the contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"RobinRobin Black<\/strong>\u2019s debut story collection \u00a0If I loved you, I would tell you this<\/em>, was a finalist for the\u00a0Frank O\u2019Connor International Short Story Prize<\/em>, the winner of the\u00a0Philadelphia Athenaeum Fiction Prize<\/em>, a summer reading pick in\u00a0O. Magazine<\/em>, and deemed a best book of 2010 by the\u00a0San Francisco Chronicle and The Irish Times.<\/em>\u00a0Robin\u2019s fiction and essays have appeared in numerous publications including\u00a0The Southern Review, The New York Times Magazine. One Story,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Best Creative Nonfiction, Vol. I<\/em>\u00a0(WW Norton).\u00a0 She is the recipient of grants from the Leeway Foundation, the MacDowell Colony, the Sirenland Conference and is also the winner of the\u00a02005 Pirate\u2019s Alley Faulkner-Wisdom Writing Competition<\/em>.\u00a0Her work has been noticed four times for Special Mention by the Pushcart Prizes and also deemed Notable in\u00a0The Best American Essays, The Best Nonrequired Reading,\u00a0<\/em>and Best American Short Stories<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A graduate of the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers, Robin is currently the 2012 Distinguished Visiting Writer at Bryn Mawr College and working on her first novel, also to be published by Random House and in six other countries around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
