Entries must be previously unpublished, no longer than 15,000 words, and must not have been previously chosen as a winner, finalist, or honorable mention in another contest.<\/span><\/p>\nNarrative<\/em>\u00a0winners and finalists have gone on to win the\u00a0Pushcart Prize<\/strong>, the\u00a0Whiting Writers\u2019 Award<\/strong>, and the\u00a0Atlantic<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0prize, and have appeared in\u00a0The Best American Short Stories<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0The Best American Nonrequired Reading<\/em><\/strong>, and others. View the\u00a0recent awards<\/span><\/a>\u00a0won by\u00a0Narrative\u00a0<\/em>authors.<\/span><\/div>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nAs always, we are looking for works with a strong narrative drive, with characters we can respond to as human beings, and with effects of language, situation, and insight that are intense and total. All entries will be considered for publication.<\/span><\/div>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nSubmission Fee:\u00a0<\/strong>There is a $22 fee for each entry. And with your entry, you\u2019ll receive three months of complimentary access to Narrative Backstage.<\/span><\/div>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nAll contest entries<\/strong>\u00a0are eligible for the\u00a0$4,000 Narrative Prize<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for 2014 and for acceptance as a\u00a0Story of the Week<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\nTiming:<\/strong>\u00a0The contest deadline is March 31, 2014, at midnight, Pacific daylight time.<\/span><\/div>\nJudging:<\/strong>\u00a0The contest will be judged by the editors of the magazine. Winners and finalists will be announced to the public by April 30, 2014. All writers who enter will be notified by email of the judges\u2019 decisions, which will be final.
