Click here to submit your work via Submittable.

Arcturus Award for Fiction

Guest Judge:Kathleen Rooney, author of Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk and founding editor of Rose Metal Press. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, The New York Times Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, Allure and The Nation.

First Prize: $300, publication in Arcturus, and a featured interview at the Chicago Review of Books.

2–3 Finalists: Publication in Arcturus, honorary membership at the Chicago Review of Books.

Reading Fee: $5

Please submit only one story (or flash fiction) per submission (though multiple submissions are welcome!) no longer than 10,000 words. We have no other requirements or stipulations, though we are passionate about publishing “new perspectives” — new ideas, new voices, new worlds, new challenges, new ways of seeing, etc. Multiple submissions allowed, as long as a reading fee is paid for each one.

  • We will also consider all submissions for regular publication. If you do not wish to be considered for regular publication, please note that in your cover letter.
  • Because multiple members of our editorial staff are currently affiliated with Columbia College Chicago, to avoid any potential conflicts of interest we are unable to accept submissions from current MFA candidates at CCC at this time.

Arcturus Award for Poetry

Guest Judge: Ruben Quesada, editor of Latino Poetics (forthcoming from University of New Mexico Press) and the author of Next Extinct Mammal. He is the founding member of the Latino Caucus at AWP, and his writing has appeared in Ploughshares, The Rumpus, The American Poetry Review, Southern Humanities Review, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere.

First Prize: $300, publication in Arcturus, and a featured interview at the Chicago Review of Books.

2–3 Finalists: Publication in Arcturus, honorary membership at the Chicago Review of Books.

Reading Fee: $5

Please submit up to 3–5 poems per submission (though multiple submissions are welcome!), no more than 10 pages total, as a single document. Please do not combine multiple poems onto a single page. We have no other requirements or stipulations, though we are passionate about publishing “new perspectives” — new ideas, new voices, new worlds, new challenges, new ways of seeing, etc. Multiple submissions allowed, as long as a reading fee is paid for each one.
