At this weekend’s FYF Festival in Los Angeles, audiences received a harmonious treat when KINGDev Hynes and Moses Sumney joined the stage with Solange. The artists banded together to perform Donny Hathaway‘s rendition of Nina Simone‘s “To Be Young Gifted And Black” and now we have footage from the rehearsal. In the video, the artists breathe new life into the almost five decade old song with their velvety blend of voices. Each artist takes their turn to add their unique spirit to the already soulful song but still maintain one voice when they all join in for the chorus. About the performance, Solange told SaintHeron.com, “It was a really special and spiritual moment of solidarity and pride, in celebrating our blackness. I was so grateful to share that with such beautiful like minded artist.”

Solange once performed “To Be Young Gifted And Black” at the age of nine at the Ensemble Theatre in Houston, and she asked KING, Moses and Dev to perform the song with her during the festival. A monumental moment not only because of the song’s significance, but it was also a reunion for Solange and Dev, who were on the outs in the past few years. Pull up a chair and watch the rehearsal footage of “To Be Young Gifted And Black,”and if you’re curious about how their FYF performance went, you can also catch that soul-stirring showing right here.
