JOJO ABOT

FYFYA WOTO is a young Anlo (Ghanaian) woman hungry to be loved. Caught in a compromising situation with her Caucasian lover in a time of slavery and divide, she is brought before a tribunal at which she must save not only herself but also her lover. The EP delves into matters related to family, tradition, duty, love, freedom, slavery and of course gossip but most importantly it highlights a woman’s right to choose even at the high cost of losing both life and freedom.  This project was recorded in MillFactory studios in Copenhagen, Denmark with artist Jonas Rendbo. Limited resources, limited time, we focused on experimenting and discovering what felt good. It was honestly an incredible journey of not only discovery of this character but also a discovery of self and voice. For that, I am eternally grateful.  I hope that this project inspires you to love something/someone so fiercely that you would sacrifice greatly for it.  I never could have imagined a life more blessed than the one that allows me to follow my dreams and so as I share this with you, I hope that we can create a transcultural exchange that allows me to continue to share my work.
