“Unsung: The Emotions”

From its inception, the popular female soul group The Emotions were a family affair.  From their early childhood, sisters Jeanette, Wanda and Sheila Hutchinson were singing publicly with their dad Joe Hutchinson, performing Gospel shows around their native Chicago as The Hutchinson Sunbeams.  Their regional popularity garnered the attention of Pervis Staples of the famed Staples Singers and in 1969 they were signed by the R&B powerhouse label Stax Records.

The group went on to international stardom with a series of legendary hits: “Best of My Love,” “Don’t Ask My Neighbors” and the duet with Earth, Wind & Fire, “Boogie Wonderland” are still radio staples more than three decades after their release.
