Haiti Cultural Exchange announces Selebrasyon! New York’s Celebration of Haitian Art and Culture will take place from May 17 to June 30, 2014. It will include dance, film, literature and spoken word, music, and visual arts. The deadline to submit is March 7, 2014, at midnight. 

Hosted at various locations around New York City, this multi-disciplinary festival of Haitian art and culture will showcase the diversity, beauty and vitality of Haiti and its Diaspora – from the traditional to the contemporary.

The Selebrasyon! Advisory Committee is asking: “What could YOU do with $1,000?” This community curated project is an opportunity for the community to share their ideas for events, artists, and topics to be featured in Selebrasyon! Pitch your best idea for an event to be held during the festival and see it come to life. CLICK HERE to learn more and apply today! The goals of Selebrasyon! are to:

• Provide opportunities for Haitian and Haitian Diaspora artists, especially those who are emerging, to share their work and build new audiences.

• Increase access to diverse and high quality arts programming, particularly in new immigrant and Haitian Diaspora communities.

• Build pride and shared cultural knowledge among under-served immigrant communities.

• Expose New York City audiences to both traditional and contemporary work by Haitian and Haitian Diaspora artists. Projects must be free and open to the public.

Proposals that highlight Haitian culture and arts in new and innovative ways are especially encouraged. Project budgets cannot exceed $1,000. The Selebrasyon! Advisory Committee will not fund personnel costs (excluding hired talent), parties, or artist residencies.
